The Swastika

Taboo as it is in the post-WW2 West, I've been drawn towards this ancient symbol lately. The swastika represents movement of energy. The movement of akashic energy beckons me. Involution and evolution. Yin and Yang. The dance of Shiva calls out to me. Even in stillness, the movement is exhilarating. The philosopher Alfred North Whitehead postulated that the universe is composed not of objects, but of events. A chair is not an enduring static object. It is a process of molecules coming together in a specific shape at a specific time. The molecules themselves are a coincidence of atoms coming together, and the atoms in turn are composed of particles which are also waves, and which, if string theory is correct, are simply a movement of energy. The very ground on which we stand is not static. It has shifted a great deal over geological time. Mountains that currently stand were once flat. Separate continents were once together. The dance goes on all around us in the most static of moments.
